ChiliProject is not maintained anymore. Please be advised that there will be no more updates.
We do not recommend that you setup new ChiliProject instances and we urge all existing users to migrate their data to a maintained system, e.g. Redmine. We will provide a migration script later. In the meantime, you can use the instructions by Christian Daehn.
E-Mail Integration / Create New Issues / In-Line Images
Added by JP Maxwell at 2011-05-07 11:52 pm
Greetings! I recently downloaded and installed Chili Project. I am finding it to be a very rich and complete project management suite. In fact, we currently use about 3 - 4 different systems to accomplish all the things that chili soft does as one system. One feature that I've seen some talk about, but am having a hard time finding any documentation on is e-mail integration. In our work flow it is crucial that people be able to create and respond to issue via e-mail. However, I am failing to see where you configure mail boxes that chili project should check for incoming issues or replies to existing issues.
In addition, a key feature that we use is the ability to e-mail in a screen cap and have it show up in-line in the issue (not as an attachment). Is this something that is currently possible with Chili Project?
Much thanks for any info given! And what a great open source project. Kudos to all involved!

Maybe it really is time we finish copying the important documentation bits over ;-) There are facilities to import mails into ChiliProject (either through IMAP and a cron, or through a script to pipe raw emails to), we only recently forked from Redmine though, and haven't converted/imported all documentation yet. The corresponding docs in Redmine are http://www.redmine.org/projects/redmine/wiki/RedmineReceivingEmails

I don't think attached images are shown inline when imported into ChiliProject, not sure about "html-inserted" images, but I wouldn't bet on it either. This could potentially be solved through a plugin, probably even by a shell/ruby/perl script that adds something like !attachment.jpg!\n\n
to the content of emails with images attached before handing them to ChiliProject.

Ahhh - great - I did find the Redmine info, but wasn't sure how compatible it was. Speaking of how compatible are the plugins. Was eyeing this one: http://www.redmine.org/projects/redmine/wiki/PluginScreenshotPaste
Ok - good info on the in-line images. Sounds like it wouldn't be too difficult to achieve.
Maybe a silly question - how do you set the From: address? Right now it shows as chiliproject@example.net

Most plugins should be mostly compatible, I don't use this one though, so I can't say for sure.

There's a text field to set it in Administration > Configuration > Notifications (not sure how it's called in english).

JP Maxwell,
Can you let me know how things have gone with the in-line images or that Screenshot plug in? I am trying to set up an evaluation and this is one major problem I see for our own setup.
There is a great tool for the mac only that works with basecamp that is simply jaw dropping... If only there was a tool for the PC that did this with Chiliproject... [http://freshlog.com/]
In similar fashion... (not Chiliproject compatible) The harvest widget [http://www.harvestbox.com.au/] seems extremely useful for project time tracking from the desktop.

Indeed I will! Progress has stalled a bit as I've been pulled away on other taks, but as soon as I'm able to give it a whirl, I'll update this thread.

By the way was looking at Freshlog. Looks very nice. Noticed the Freshlog Classic is integrated with other solutions (Fogbugz, etc) -- perhaps we could work with them to integrate with Chili Project. I'm not familiar enough with the API to know how easy / difficult that would be. Also, you might be interested: Windows Private Beta is almost ready. Request a private beta invitation

Also, I think this is the Harvest you refer to unless you wanted to send me a box of nuts ;)
