A couple problems during install
Added by Daniel Mooney at 2011-03-17 06:19 pm
Hello,
First off, I'd like to say that I just got the software up and running, and it seems like it's going to be a good fit for our needs. I'd definitely like to be an active submitter (if only for documentation).
I experienced two problems during installation, and thought I'd post to see if there are any changes that could be made to documentation so that other folks don't have the same issue.
- First, the avahi-daemon on Ubuntu 10.x causes issues with Webrick. At first, upon install, when I viewed http://server-address:3000/, all I got was a loading icon. Long story short: shutting down avahi (i.e. sudo service avahi-daemon stop) was the solution to this.
- Second, and I don't as of yet have a solution to this, my Apache configuration tells me that I don't have access to /. There's an error in my error.log Apache log, and I've got to hunt down the error and the cause of the error from an installation standpoint.
More on this as soon as I can.
The problem w/ the Apache configuration seemed to be a conflict between the Ubuntu package and RVM installation methods. I re-ran the passenger-install-apache2-module script, modified my passenger.load and .conf files, and all works swimmingly.
