ChiliProject is not maintained anymore. Please be advised that there will be no more updates.
We do not recommend that you setup new ChiliProject instances and we urge all existing users to migrate their data to a maintained system, e.g. Redmine. We will provide a migration script later. In the meantime, you can use the instructions by Christian Daehn.
Running the new ChiliProject 3.0 theme now
Added by Eric Davis at 2011-12-14 04:12 pm
I just wanted to let everyone know that my open source ChiliProject site is now running the new 3.0 design (#263 #692) with a custom CSS only theme (~50 lines of CSS). I'm still tweaking things and will be making some improvements to the default theme with the goal of making theme creation as easy as possible.
Feel free to check it out if you've been interested in how the new design would look. Little Stream Software Projects

Running the new ChiliProject 3.0 theme now - Added by Felix Schäfer at 2011-12-14 04:40 pm
Looks great, the top-menu projects and more drop downs don't seem to work on iPhone though :-/

You're probably not logged in which means the drop down menu doesn't have any items (UX bug I'm going to fix). Check the login/account menu on the far right.
There is a bug with closing a menu by touching on another part of the page. I think I know how to fix it but I want to make the desktop browser version work better before I worry about the ios version.

Is looking great and a big improvement over previous versions. I would be happy to help with testing of the new theme if needed??

Indeed I wasn't, and the login menu worked, yes. I was surprised to find nothing in the list though I remembered it holds only projects I am member of, maybe it should be renamed to "My projects" to reflect that and minimize surprise. Not sure what we could do with anonymous users though, maybe just remove the drop-down arrow and link to the projects list page?

Sure, just wanted to write it down :-)

I'd like to point again to an issue I created a while back on redmine.org: http://www.redmine.org/issues/5556.
As an anonymous, I'd expect to see all visible projects there. And as an authorized user, I'd like to either see all projects visible to me or only member projects (probably depending on some setting as both types could make the list rather unusable depending on how the project settings are used in a Chili instance).

I'm not sure either, the contents of those menus weren't designed to be very clear. Having two menus (Projects, My Projects) would be clear but would also be very cluttered.
Ideally I think the Projects menu should list all the projects the user has access to and display their projects differently. Basically the same idea we have at /projects right now. The only problem is I don't want to prefix the project name with a star because that would screw up the tree indenting.

(No sure why but citing Eric's comment didn't work, can anyone else try that out?)
Append the star/other symbol instead of prepending it? Different colors/styles for projects you're in?

We could either always prepend / append the project with an icon (e.g. a star for member projects and another one for visible projects). But I'm fine with different colors too if we have something to cater the information to screen readers too.

Do the previous themes are still available with ChiliProject 3.0 ?

The question of compatibility / changes to old themes is interesting+important for mee, too.
I'm not afraid to invest some work to adapt or port the themes.
Maybe that's a point to start helping you?
As I mentioned some months ago, I'm really interested to support this project.
Due to my job (often writing developer+user docs, design flyers, creating content for webpages) I would be happy, if I could help to provide more docs and maybe a (content/structure) face-lift of the website.
As beginner I encountered some problems how and where to find important informations for the first steps and later for advanced practices (like themes, ldap integration etc.). Mostly these infos where spread around the Redmine page, in ChiliProject discussions and in the ticket system. So I would start to gather the most important/demanded infos and put them into a maybe nice-looking way on the project page.
Just my first thoughts during a very early time here in Germany :)
ciao,
Chris

You mean the "classic" and "alternate" themes? As far as I know they haven't been tested, but as at least the project menu/project "tabs" have moved from top to left, they would need some work to be ported.
Please let us know if you have a specific need for those themes so that we can look into porting them (or decide not to).

Any help with the theme(s) would be appreciated as the 4 of us have (as far as I know) more an anecdotic and "dabbling" rather than a working knowledge of CSS. I think the main thing that's been bothering me the last few days is the (mostly incorrect) placement of the avatar symbols, but there's surely other places that can be improved ;-)

There's been talk here and there about having something more CMS-like to handle the landing page and the docs, but nothing's really been done yet as we've been focusing on other things. I think Holger and Muntek might be helpful with that, try catching them on IRC :-)
Just my first thoughts during a very early time here in Germany :)
Nice, where are you in Germany?

Hi Felix,
I'm working now with redmine, not in production and think i'll move to chiliproject last week.
After reading more about the new Theme all i'm doing now is avilable for the new theme.
Thanks.

@Felix:
We (my company) faced the same problem (adding a CMS/Blog to CP). We solved this with a combination of FosWiki and CP - so we don't use CP's Wiki. I even thought about a blog (which is much easier to manage/maintain), but even Wordpress doesn't bring the dynamic linking (CamelCase) etc., which we needed.
So my hint would be to use an external Wiki to hold the landing and doc page(s).
Interesting opensource wikis could be: DocuWiki and FosWiki - both are very flexible, have many extensions available and are well maintained and documented.
Due to the fact that I'm C++ developer in my fulltime job, my CSS skills can not compete with a web designer :) But I've some experiences with webdesign and setting up small up to enterprise websites the last 10 years. Even for Trac I extended plugins to add some new JavaScript/Ajax functions and new styling options.
So I'm used to work with Ajax/JavaScript/CSS.
For the question to Germany:
ciao,
Chris

I like this theme, but the "Projects" menu button in the top right menu bar needs some adjustments/fix, I think. With the beta1 release of 3.0.0 of, only a right click and open in new tab/window reveals the projects overview (/projects). When clicking on the Projects title, the menu is opened (possibly empty) and closed only. I am using Safari on Mac OS X 10.6.8.
I'd suggest to add an entry "View all projects" separated by a horizontal line from the other entries which links to the projects overview. This would also avoid the menu to be empty, i.e., not having any menu items no matter if I am logged in or not (and given that login is not required). Another solution would be to open the menu only on click on the arrow (maybe it works like this in other browsers?!?).
There might be a better way to introduce this behavior or fix the issue with the click on "Projects", but as a quick fix, checkout the following git diff output:
diff --git a/app/views/layouts/base.rhtml b/app/views/layouts/base.rhtml index 9acffb2..b0fa112 100644 --- a/app/views/layouts/base.rhtml +++ b/app/views/layouts/base.rhtml @@ -55,6 +55,8 @@ end %> <%= project_content %> + <hr /> + <%= content_tag(:li, link_to('View all projects', {:controller => 'projects', :action => 'index'})) %> </ul> </li> <li class="drop-down" id="more-menu">
Update: I opened a feature request ticket #813 instead. Any discussion regarding this should probably rather go there.
